"THIS HAPPENED TO ME"

"This Happened To Me" is Outdoor Life Magazine's monthly comic strip.

Recounting humorous or hair-raising tales from readers' real life hunting

and fishing adventures, it has long been the magazine's most popular feature.

Cartoonist Frank Hubbard created THTM  (as it is known "in house") in 1940,

and continued drawing it for the next 20 years. Carl Pfeufer picked-up illustration chores

for several years and then handed-off to a succession of artists

including Sam Glanzman and Dick Amundsen.

In 1981, I took over as illustrator of "This Happened To Me",  to reinvigorate it

with realism, action and drama. It was during my initial 15-year run, that the feature was

enhanced with full color. I took a break from THTM  in 1996, but returned 3-years later

to take the well-loved adventurestrip into the 21st century.
